The site of the Warehouse was originally Althams Builders merchants.
It was acquired by Robert and Hazel Bowman (2 local dignitaries) in
1980 when Althams relocated to the edge of the town. At the time of
the purchase it was Robert and Hazels' intention to develop the site
into a large nightclub after having previously helped run the towns
then only nightclub "Charlies", which was a 160 capacity
venue.
Unfortunately the 'powers that be' refused the licence stating "there
was not a need"! This decision was appealed but again refused.
Things were looking bleak.
Frustrated by the decision which they felt had taken away an exciting
opportunity to create an obvious 'need' in the town, Robert and Hazel
let the site be used for a variety of uses including an indoor market.
The dream of opening a quality nightclub had not died and Robert continued
to work on parts of the site in a minor way. Finally in 1998 a pub
conversion was applied for and granted so work began in earnest.
Most of the work was carried out by a small group of local tradesmen
and the Warehouse is a credit to their efforts and skill.
The Warehouse opened its doors in May 2000 with a 530 capacity. A
large extension followed in April 2002 increasing the capacity to
